Patient preparation before ultrasound examination

1. Examination of the organs in the upper abdomen (ULTRASOUND OF THE UPPER ABDOMEN)
1.1 If the appointment is in the morning
Patients will be instructed to abstain from all food and drink, except for medication and water, after midnight on the day before the examination or at least 6 hours before the examination. In cases where food is eaten before the examination, the gallbladder will contract, making it impossible to diagnose gallbladder abnormalities. In addition, there will be gas in the stomach and intestines, which will affect the clarity of the examination images.
1.2 If the appointment is in the afternoon
For breakfast, the patient should eat a light, non-fat meal. After 8:00 a.m., abstain from all food and drink, except for medicines and water, until the examination is complete. For examinations of small children, abstain from milk before the examination and bring a milk bottle or water bottle with you.
2. Pelvic organ examination (ULTRASOUND OF THE LOWER ABDOMEN) and urinary system (ULTRASOUND OF THE KUB)
For abdominal ultrasound examinations, the patient must drink 500-700 ml of water approximately 30-60 minutes before the examination and must hold urine until the examination is complete. This is to check for abnormalities in the bladder, uterus, ovaries, and prostate gland, as the sound waves require water as a medium to pass through to the organs behind the bladder.
3. Examination of blood vessels and organs other than those related to the abdominal cavity.
For example, thyroid and breast diseases do not require any patient preparation.
